Air France tests autonomous baggage tractor at Toulouse Airport In partnership with Charlatte Autonom and Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, Air France is testing an autonomous tractor to transport baggage. Testing of the AT135 baggage tractor began on 15 November and involved the operation of the vehicle between the baggage sorting area and aircraft. Charlatte Autonom, a subsidiary of Charlatte Manutention and NAVYA, developed the tractor. Agents from Groupe 3S are supervising the vehicle. Air France and Toulouse-Blagnac Airport have integrated the flight operations and infrastructure for the testing. Toulouse-Blagnac Airport executive board chairman Philippe Crébassa said: “This test is a concrete step to designing the Smart Airport: more innovative, connected and more efficient for our customers. “It was only natural that this world-first took place at Toulouse Airport, the pioneering city of aviation.” The vehicle features intelligent sensors that can recognise the environment, identify obstacles in all directions and make decisions. Equipped with Lidar, cameras, GPS, an odometer and autonomous steering software, the vehicle is capable of navigating the airport independently. During its operations, the vehicle collects the baggage from the sorting area, where an agent loads the containers with bags. The vehicle then takes the baggage to the pre-programmed destination where the aircraft is present. The agents near the aircraft unload the containers and the vehicle returns to the baggage sorting area. Air France IT & Tech Innovation head Vincent Euzeby said: “By facilitating the use of an autonomous baggage tractor and perfectly integrating it into its operational processes, Air France’s ambition is to further optimise its operational performance

Geraldton to welcome driverless bus A driverless bus will shuttle passengers through central Geraldton for several months starting in April. Dubbed the RAC Intellibus, the futuristic vehicle will allow residents and tourists in WA’s Mid West to experience driverless technology for the first time. Starting at the Geraldton Visitor Centre, the bus will travel a 2.6km route along the foreshore, Marine Terrace Mall, Town Square, Rocks Centre, and the Museum of Geraldton. City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn described the visit as a “huge opportunity for the region” and a “fantastic outcome for Geraldton. “This experience is a huge coup for Geraldton and we know both our community and visitors alike will love the addition to our CBD,” Mr Van Styn said. “Not only are we embracing state of the art technology, but this will be fantastic for tourism and marketing of the Mid West. “I can already envisage the Intellibus will be utilised significantly - especially during peak times such as cruise ship visits.” RAC executive general manager advocacy and members, Patrick Walker, said regional areas “present unique road safety and mobility challenges”. “That’s why engaging these communities is a priority, to help us all better understand and prepare for the changing nature of transport,” Mr Walker said. “Human error is the cause of the vast majority of road deaths and serious injuries, so helping to safely transition to driverless technology sooner could help save hundreds of Australian lives and prevent thousands of serious injuries.” An RAC spokeswoman said passengers would learn about road safety and observe how the Intellibus interacts with other road users including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Since being launched in South Perth in 2016, the RAC Intellibus has transported more than 16,000 passengers across more than 24,770km in autonomous mode. An eight-week visit to Busselton last year marked the first time the Intellibus had been to regional WA.

EREVITA Team, 21.6.2020 15:59:45

New autonomous shuttles deployed at the end of June in Geneva What if it was as easy to hail an autonomous bus as a taxi? This is the idea behind the autonomous shuttles currently being deployed in Geneva on the site of the Belle-Idée hospital, in partnership with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). Two vehicles will start to run on test from the end of June 2020 on the site's road network. Passengers will be able to borrow them from August. Why it's innovative. Unlike the line operated since March 2018 in Meyrin by TPG on the XA line, the shuttle will not stop at predetermined stops, but on demand, thanks to an application. A world first for a public site, explains the project coordinator. Led by the European consortium Avenue and piloted by the University of Geneva alongside the city and the canton, it could be emulated in Europe.

Villeurbanne, France, July, 09 2020 – 5 :45 pm CEST – Navya (FR0013018041- Navya), a leading company in autonomous driving systems, launches a level 4 fully autonomous shuttle service, meaning without a safety operator on board. This service has been launched progressively since June 22nd at the National Sport Shooting Centre (NSSC) in Châteauroux, France, in partnership with Keolis. A decisive step towards a fully autonomous commercial offering Since June 22nd 2020, the “Autonom® Shuttle Evo” shuttle has been circulating within the National Shooting Sport Centre allowing athletes and visitors to move from the car park to the reception area. With a distance of 1.5 km, this route is carried out at a maximum speed of 18 km/hour. This launch is a decisive step towards the development of a transport offering that integrates level 4 full autonomy vehicles (which corresponds to a real autonomy without a safety operator onboard). This service is carried out in complete safety for passengers and other road users. The service also marks the first-ever global deployment of the “Autonom Shuttle Evo”, the result of six years of experimentation and nearly 200 Navya deployments worldwide. This new “Autonom Shuttle Evo” version incorporates essential improvements to achieve level 4 autonomy, including: Autonomization of functions to offboard the safety operator in a remote supervision center; Reinforced and optimized sensor architecture to offer a wider vision and guarantee safety; Revised user experience (passenger information banner with visual and audible announcements, optimized access for people with reduced mobility); Enhanced connectivity to remotely monitor vehicle status in real time and ensure secure predictive maintenance. Gradual and secure implementation Thanks to the continuous improvement of the “Navya Driver” autonomous driving software and the sensor architecture of the “Autonom Shuttle Evo”, the shuttle operates without a safety driver, in a determined environment and on a predefined route, with off-board supervision that can take control of the vehicle in real time, if necessary. The presence of other users (pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles) on the site is regulated thanks to secure access and reduced driving speed. In later stages of the experiment, the shuttle will be supervised from a remote control centre. The shuttle will operate on a route that includes a multi-lane road and intersections with connected traffic lights.
